Chris Cain Artist Profile Chris Cain has a jazz tinged, blues soaked guitar tone that is instantly recognizable, and a big bold voice full of soul and passion. He's also a prolific songwriter, with thirty-something years of experience recording, and touring the world. Music critics call him a triple threat talent because he really can do it all; write, sing, and play music- incredibly well.
A contemporary artist with an old school education in the blues, Cain taught himself to play guitar when he was 8 years old. He first learned about blues music from his parent's extensive record collection. He studied music at San Jose City College and soon mastered piano, bass guitar, clarinet, alto and tenor sax. His blues upbringing and his jazz studies melded to form the searing guitar style that sets him apart today.
During the two decades between 1989 and 2000, Chris produced seven critically acclaimed recordings and collected numerous awards and honors. A fixture on the touring circuit, and a favorite at festivals, Cain has always been in the top of the ranks of the blues music scene.
In 1997, San Jose Repertory Theatre commissioned Chris Cain to write an original blues music score for Thunder Knocking on the Door; A Blusical Tale of Rhythm and the Blues by Keith Glover. Besides composing 13 original tunes for the play, Chris was also Musical Director and fronted the onstage blues quartet during each performance. The production was extremely successful, and enjoyed an extended run in San Jose and five weeks of sold out shows in Seattle.
In late 1999, Chris Cain was invited to perform with the 60 piece San Jose Wind Symphony as the featured soloist performing a blues and jazz suite. That same year included several appearances at festivals and nightclubs throughout the USA and Australia.
Cain is as comfortable on a theatre stage as he is in a juke joint and through it all has stayed true to blues music and his unique sound. With an abundance of talent and uncommon versatility, Chris Cain is well on his way to establishing himself as a musical force to be reckoned with.
