My desktop is a Dell Dimension. I got it in 2002. It has Windows XP SP3 and IE6.0 SP3 with all updates. MS Java Virtual Machine was a part of XP or IE and is still there because I can find it because it is on the Advanced properties page of IE. I don't have any other Java installed (nothing in Control Panel-Programs). I want to go to the Intel driver support site and download their program to detect the Intel drivers on this system and download any, if needed. The site says I need to download the latest version of Java. I understand that. Here's the question:
Is there any thing I should do before downloading and installing the latest Java version? I do have a Java folder in C:Windows, but nothing in C:Program Files. There is a JavaSoft key under HK_LOCAL_MACHINESoftware, but there is no value set for the key. There is not a JavaSoft key under HK_LOCAL_USERSoftware.
And the reason I haven't upgraded IE, other than the buggy ones reported all over these boards, is because I only use IE to update windows. My default browser is Firefox.
Thanks for any help.
